When I first moved to New York, my close friend gifted me an old Nikon Nikkormat from 1973. He gave it to me under 2 conditions. The first, that I don’t sell it for beer money. The second, that I actually USE the camera. Which is exactly what I’ve done. I learned almost immediately about the excitement it brings, bringing in a roll of film to be developed. I also learned I’m pretty good at it. My favorite part is the particular way film acts as a visual journal of sorts, documenting a moment so perfectly.

Carpentry/Metalwork

The best part of learning to make things for other people is learning how to make them for yourself. I feel like that applies to all ventures in life. Learning how things are made has always captivated me since I was little. When I first moved to NY, I started freelancing as a production assistant on music videos and events. I started working in an event fabrication shop shortly after, first with the carpentry (wood) department and then onto to the metal shop. I had the luck of working with some incredible people with decades of knowledge. I walked away from that side of the industry with a head packed full of knowledge.
